This is the 13th consecutive year that the withdrawal of monsoon is delayed.

According to IMD, till September 21, overall rainfall in the country was reduced by seven percent. 36 percent of the districts have received either deficient (20 to 59 percent below normal) or excess (more than 59 percent below normal) rainfall.
According to the forecast of Elena Surovyatkina, a climate scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, the withdrawal of monsoon from northwest India may begin between September 30 and October 9. This means that the withdrawal of monsoon in the north-west of the country will be delayed by 13 to 22 days.
