This time the tournament will be hosted by Pakistan. Nine matches were shifted to Sri Lanka after the BCCI decided not to send a team to Pakistan. This time a total of 13 matches are to be held. This means that only four matches will be played on the ground of the host country. The Asia Cup was organized for the first time in 1984. Till now its 15 editions have been organized, but only three teams have become champions.

In the history of the Asia Cup, only three teams have won the title so far. India has become the champion seven times. At the same time, Sri Lanka won the title six times. Pakistan was successful in lifting the trophy twice. Apart from these three, Bangladesh is the only team which has not become the champion even after reaching the final. Teams from Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong have not reached the finals. Nepal will play in this tournament for the first time.
